Dr. Abdurrahim was born and raised in the city of Jos, in North Central Nigeria, and completed his medical education at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, where he was awarded the overall best graduating physician in pediatrics. A unique and enriching facet of his career in healthcare has been his exposure to a wide array of different patients and settings, from the challenges of running a free clinic independently for a small, resource-limited community of 20,000 in the rural part of northern Nigeria, to the practice of medicine in hospitals in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and now the United States.
He was the Pediatrics Chief Resident at Hamad Medical Center, Weill Cornell University Qatar, where he had worked with the residency program leadership to implement continuity clinics and night-float call systems for residents. Dr. Abdurrahim began his journey in the US at Boston Medical Center, where he pursued a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, participated in vaccine trial studies, and conducted clinical research.
Dr. Abdurrahim’s areas of clinical interest include neonatal infections, infection in the immunocompromised host, antimicrobial stewardship, travel and tropical medicine, and medical education.
