Biography:
Dr. Rao began working at Lowell Community Health Center in 2003 after completing a fellowship in Geriatrics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. By that time, he already had more than a decade of experience, including completing his medical degree and residency in Internal Medicine at government schools in India, where he graduated at the top of his class. He then went right to work as a faculty member of Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India.
After arriving in the U.S., Dr. Rao had to complete medical school all over again. He graduated in 2002, again at the top of his class, and soon after began working at Lowell CHC. In his words: “My experience at the Health Center has been nothing short of wonderful. The work we do here is so important – striving to give the best possible treatment in a culturally sensitive way.” While at Lowell CHC, Dr. Rao has championed innovative new treatments, such as the OBAT (Office-Based Addiction Treatment) Program and expansion of HIV services.
