“LOWELL — On Thursday, Lowell Community Health Center celebrated Juneteenth by unveiling a new panel to its first-floor timeline. The panel is titled ‘Acknowledging Injustice,’ to recognize that without the labor of enslaved workers in the South, the health center’s home in the historic Hamilton Mill building would not exist.”
On Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, the Lowell City Council voted unanimously to declare that Racism is a Public Health Crisis following testimony including by Lowell Community Health Center CEO Susan West Levine, a number of community organizations, and citizens who supported this declaration. We applaud this vote by the City Council, and the investments in four key areas — public health, education & training, socioeconomic equity, and generational wealth-building opportunities — being made as part of this declaration.
