Training the Next Generation of Family Physicians in Lowell
Lowell Community Health Center is proud to announce the initial ACGME accreditation of our Family Medicine Residency Program—an initiative designed to strengthen primary care in Greater Lowell and train the next generation of family physicians.
For more than 55 years, Lowell CHC has provided high-quality, patient-centered care. With the launch of this residency program, the health center is expanding its role in shaping the future of healthcare by preparing new family physicians to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
As we prepare to welcome our first class of six residents in July 2026, this program represents an investment in the future of healthcare—one that will have a lasting impact on both patients and providers in Greater Lowell.
Why Lowell CHC?
This program offers a rigorous, community-driven residency experience that integrates:
- Strong academic and clinical partnerships with Tufts Medical School and Lowell General Hospital, ensuring a well-rounded training experience.
- Inpatient training at Lowell General Hospital, where most of our patients receive hospital-based care.
- Outpatient training at Lowell CHC, where residents gain experience in primary care, behavioral health integration, and preventive medicine in a real-world setting.
- A curriculum designed to prepare residents for the challenges and rewards of community-based medicine, particularly in urban settings.
Residents will have the opportunity to develop broad-spectrum family medicine skills, working closely with an experienced care team to address the medical, social, and behavioral health needs of patients. Training will emphasize continuity of care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to navigate the complexities of modern healthcare.
